As suggested by the inscription, the tin-glazed plate was created in the 17 century. Many years later, it surfaced in a London sewer. The words “You and I are Earth” speak to the materiality of clay (dirt, mud), as well as the human life cycle / connection to the planet’s natural systems. Despite being an antique object, the message is timeless and a good reminder, for this day and age especially, of our earthliness.
